Star Searchers – “Exploring the Night Sky”

Seasoned professor/astronomer Mark Freilich will lead each of these interactive astronomy programs. Each program features an indoor question and answer session on basic astronomy, fun and games followed by exciting outdoor viewing using a professional telescope. Participants are welcome to bring their own telescopes and binoculars. Handout information packet is included. (although this is an adult workshop, children ages 9 and up are welcome to register as long as they are accompanied by a participating adult). Funded in part by Capital One Bank.
January Sky Highlights
The winter constellations dazzle the night skies shining brilliantly. The brightest star in the sky Sirius makes its prime time appearance in the constellation Canis Minor shining like a blue diamond. See the constellation Orion with the blue giant Rigel and the red supergiant Betelgeuse. See stars and new solar systems forming in the Orion nebula a cloud of gas where new solar systems are forming 1500 light years distant. The planet Jupiter is ready for prime time observing as well
