One of the longest running astronomy programs in the city led by seasoned professor/astronomer Mark Freilich features an indoor question and answer session on basic astronomy, followed by exciting outdoor viewing using a professional telescope. Participants are welcome to bring their own telescopes and binoculars. Handout information packet is included. Limited to 15 participants. (although this is an adult workshop, children ages 9 and up are welcome to register as long as they are accompanied by a participating adult).

Highlights for the May skies
Ursa major stalks high across the northern sky. Once we locate the big dipper we follow a line to the next major star the red giant in Arcturus, in the constellation Bootes, and we keep following the sky to the blue brilliant star Spica in the constellation Virgo the home of 2500 galaxies. We should be able to observe the evening star Venus and see the giant planet Jupiter on the eastern horizon. We will observe the moon as well.
