A fun and creative introduction to ballet class. Students explore developmentally appropriate ballet vocabulary and movement skills through the dance concepts. Musicality, improvisation, skill development, and the fundamentals of choreography are taught with an emphasis on nurturing the creative voice of each student.
- Dress for comfort and ease of movement. Dance clothes such as leotards, footless tights, sweatpants/shorts, leggings, t-shirts, dance skirts, etc. Hair should be pulled back from the face. Ballet shoes are required for this class.
Monday classes run as a 16 week session and are priced accordingly. No classes Jan 20, 2024 (MLK Day).
Emi Aiken
Emi Aiken is originally from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. They hold a BFA in dance and a MFA in Choreography from UNC Greensboro. Emi holds a Certificate in Counseling from NC State University and a Certificate in Integrative Health Coaching from Duke University. Emi has performed nationally and internationally with many dance companies and is a member of the Royal House of LaBeija, the first international vogue house. Emi has taught creative dance, jazz, contemporary, gymnastics, and movement technique for 17 years in studios, public schools, and community centers in the US and abroad. Emi believes that children and young adults are creative and capable at their core, having the ability to understand and experience their bodies in space while implementing practice toward personal and collective visions.
