“Cuero” presents a series of paintings exploring Caribbean cultural syncretism and the experience of navigating modern life under Western influence. Through a pictorial narrative approach, the works create a compelling tension between the everyday and the mystical. During this special experience, artist Gabriel Sanchez Carpio will personally guide members through the exhibit, sharing insights into his creative process, artistic influences, and the stories behind the artwork.

Gabriel Sanchez Carpio is the 2025-26 Appell Arts Fellow at York College. The Appell Arts Fellowship and Powder Mill Foundation Arts Fellowship are 11-month artist residencies awarded each year to recent York College graduates pursuing careers in creative fields. As their culminating artistic project, each fellow presents an exhibition or public display of the creative work they produced during their fellowship term.
