Art with a Message: An Exploration of Social Commentary Art
Course | Registration opens 8/3/2026 8:00 AM EDT
Throughout history, artists have used their unique position in society to address injustices and problems, and to advocate for change. Art can be a powerful form of self-expression that goes far beyond being simply decorative or entertaining. Through symbolism and metaphor, artists can portray uncomfortable truths and challenge the viewer to understand and to take action. In this course, we will examine works by Manet, Goya, Banksy, Kruger, Rockwell, Kahlo, and many others who have used their art to confront social issues.
