On a Farm So Long Ago
Course | Registration opens 8/3/2026 8:00 AM EDT
This course briefly depicts the history and what life was like for the presenter and her family as they owned/operated their fruit farm and bakehouse in the 50s/60s in York County. It addresses the hard work and ethics of struggling to keep the land and business operating in spite of the many progressive changes going on around them and the difficult decisions that families are sometimes forced to make during life-altering times.
Pam Gay
Pam (Hildebrand) Gay is a retired registered nurse and former York County Coroner. She grew up in southern York County on her great-grandparents’ fruit farm, Fahs’ Fruit Farm, now the site of Apple Hill Medical Center. She has presented this course and others at Penn State OLLI’s program in the past. This course was developed after a 2019 article she wrote for the newspaper prior to the destruction of some of the last remaining farm buildings.
