York Symphony Orchestra's musical director, Maestro Lawrence Golan, previews the upcoming classical music concert to deepen knowledge and enhance enjoyment of the concert. With its iconic four-note opening and themes of sorrow and delight threaded throughout, Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is a cornerstone of our musical pantheon. The pioneering symphony kicks off the YSO’s year-long celebration of the German composer, Beethoven. Paired with this masterwork is Sergei Prokofiev’s First Symphony, which is infused with unexpected harmonies. The concert concludes with Christopher Theofanidis’ Bassoon Concerto that was written specifically for our esteemed guest soloist Martin Kuuskmann. Beethoven lives on!
