Emerging Insights on Women's Health in Mid- and Later-Life (Spartan Spotlight)

This course explores emerging insights on women’s mid- and later-life health, with a focus on the physiological, cognitive, and emotional changes associated with perimenopause and menopause. Participants will examine current research on hormonal transitions and their connections to muscle strength, bone density, brain health, cardiovascular wellness, sleep, and overall quality of life. The session also highlights strategies for healthy aging, prevention, and wellness across the lifespan, emphasizing the importance of informed, proactive approaches to women’s health during midlife and beyond.
Laura Steck
Laura West Steck is an associate professor of sociology at York College of Pennsylvania. Her primary areas of teaching and research interest explore the impacts of historical and contemporary inequalities on individuals, groups, and society as a whole. Much of this work focuses on how gender, race, class, and other intersecting social inequalities shape health outcomes, experiences of illness, and access to health care across the life course.
