The Science of Booze

How is your favorite libation produced? What distinguishes whiskey from bourbon; vodka from rum? How are ingredients such as malt, grapes, rye, barley, potatoes, and sugar cane converted into alcoholic beverages? Beginning with an explanation of fermentation and distillation, a look at what differentiates alcoholic beverages will be discussed. Through the use of short videos, pictures, animations, and discussion, the science of alcohol will be unveiled.
Robert Moreland
Robert Moreland is a retired high school teacher. He taught chemistry at Dallastown Area High School for thirty-five years and also was an adjunct member of the chemistry department at York College of Pennsylvania for thirty years. He currently enjoys tending his small vineyard and making wine at his home in Seven Valleys.
