Hot Spots
Course | Registration opens 2/1/2027 8:00 AM EDT
The class will be encouraged to discuss a current hot spot in the world as suggested by the instructor. We will look at the history of the issue and consider the implications of the problem for that particular region and the world, taking into consideration the social, political, and environmental factors.
Sharon Christ
Sharon Christ spent her professional life as dean of students at Penn State York and had the opportunity to travel internationally with students, staff and faculty. The most treasured opportunity was being selected to participate in Semester at Sea and sail around the world, with stops in nine countries. She continues to travel as often as possible in an effort to live up to a friend’s advice: never let your age be greater than the number of countries to which you have traveled.
Don Gogniat
Don Gogniat worked as an administrator for Penn State and professor and chancellor for Penn State York before retirement. He served in the Peace Corps and worked as a regional planner for the Costa Rican National Planning Office. He also sailed multiple times on Semester at Sea, where he taught geography and global studies and served as executive dean.
