Beatrix Potter: Tale of a Victorian Age Would Be Mycologist
Course | Registration opens 2/1/2027 8:00 AM EDT
Helen Beatrix Potter was a phenomenally talented artist and storyteller who, had she been able to, would’ve dedicated her life to the study of mushrooms instead of being the creative force behind an enduring multitude of children’s tales. Who among us hasn’t heard of Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and last but certainly not least, the mischievous Peter Rabbit? In this lecture we'll investigate the curious, and equally enduring tale of Beatrix Potter's life - or perhaps we should begin by saying 'Once upon a time …'
Tom McCoy
Tom McCoy is an amateur naturalist with a keen focus on fungi and is the current president of a large mushroom club with ~700 members. McCoy has given many presentations about his beloved kingdom fungi, and in this talk we'll discuss the charmed life of a would be mycologist (someone who studies mushrooms professionally) but, when denied entry to this profession. became one of history's greatest storytellers instead, Beatrix Potter.
