The Battle of the Little Bighorn

In this program we will learn about the events that took place along the Little Bighorn River in June of 1876, the events that led to the climactic battle, the enormous consequences for the Indians of the High Plains, and the life of George Armstrong Custer. Custer led the soldiers of the 7th Cavalry into a poorly executed attack against a massive force of Lakota, Sioux, and Cheyenne warriors. He was outnumbered nearly 10 to 1. The result was total annihilation of his army. Victory was fleeting, however, for the Indians. Their way of life was coming to a tragic end.
Jeff Kuhn
Jeff was born in York, PA, and still lives in York County, along the Susquehanna River. He taught biology and ecology for 25 years at York Suburban High School and environmental science as an adjunct at Penn State York for half a dozen years. Kuhn holds a Ph.D. in ecology from Penn State. He spends two months on the road each year gathering material for more LLI classes focusing mostly on natural history and American Indian culture.
