The Underground Railroad in York County

More than 60 individuals or family groups are known to have been involved in operating the Underground Railroad network here in York County from 1810 through the end of the Civil War in 1865. Scott Mingus, the author of two popular books on the Underground Railroad in York County, will discuss some of the leading conductors and the routes they used.
Scott Mingus
Scott Mingus is a retired scientist and R&D director in the global pulp and paper industry. He has written 38 books on the Civil War, the Underground Railroad, and local railroad history. He and co-author Eric Wittenberg received the 2023 Bachelder-Coddington Award for the best new book on the Gettysburg Campaign. He and his wife, Debi, live in Manchester Township.
