Memoirs of a Geisha: Book Club/Movie Collaboration

Memoirs of a Geisha was written by Arthur Golden in 1997 and follows a young girl from a poor fishing village in Japan who is sold to a geisha house and, through resilience and training, becomes one of Kyoto’s most celebrated geisha, navigating rivalries, tradition, and the turmoil of a changing society. In the first session we will discuss the book and in the second session we'll watch the movie.
Alice Lynch
Reading has always been a passion for Alice Lynch. From Nancy Drew to Louise Penny, books are a constant companion. Her goal for the book club courses is to continue the tradition set by their founder, Pat McGrath, to challenge members to read something outside of their comfort zone and then join in a lively discussion with their peers.
Chris Staats
Christine (Chris) Staats has a B.S. in secondary mathematics education from Shippensburg University. She has been teaching mathematics at the high school level for more than forty years with joy in her heart. She loves watching films, learning new things, reading, listening to live music, playing pickleball, and being with her family. She hopes to bring more joy into the world through kindness.
