Washington D.C. Museums Bus Trip
Bus trip | Registration opens 2/1/2027 8:00 AM EDT
Join York College of Pennsylvania’s ART 395 class for a day of intergenerational learning and architectural exploration in Washington, D.C. Designed to bridge historical lived experience with contemporary art theory, this field trip brings together college undergraduates studying late-20th and 21st-century visual culture and the LLI community. Together, participants will explore how public space, collective memory, and architectural design have evolved along the National Mall over recent decades. From minimalist interventions to complex modern tapestries, the trip offers a front-row seat to how America has commemorated history in the nation's capital during D.C.’s famous Cherry Blossom Festival. Sites include the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and World War II Memorial. The day will end with a tour of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. This trip will involve walking (approximately 1.5 miles outdoors and indoor walking in the museum) and will be rain or shine.
LLI community members may join ART 395 students for class on March 18 to discuss the history of memorials in the late 20th century in preparation for this trip together.
