Join me for an afterschool art class from your own home studio! Each week we will learn basic acrylic painting techniques along with a fun theme. I will share cookie recipes to make at home or students can eat their own snack while painting. Some techniques include color mixing, blending, layering, dabbing/stippling, dripping, scumbling (swirling), and sgraffito (scratching into the surface).

  • This class takes place via Zoom. Link will be provided 1 hour prior to the start of each class.
  • Materials Needed (each week):
  • 1 8x10 Canvas (or larger)
  • Acrylic paint (12 colors in 0.75 oz (22 ml) tubes, including Alizarin Crimson Hue, Cadmium Orange Hue, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Dioxazine Purple, Mars Black, Light Green Permanent, Phthalo Green, Primary Blue, Primary Yellow, Primary Red, and Titanium White.)
  • Paintbrushes (small, medium, large round, and flat)
  • Water Cup
  • Paper towel or washcloth to clean brushes
  • Eisel (optional)
  • Palette or paper plate
  • Palette Knife or plastic knife
  • Scratch Paper/pencil
  • White chalk

As an artist, I love drawing and painting, especially with watercolor. My works draw inspiration from nature and imagination. I received my B.A. in Art Education (with a k-12 certification) from UNC in 2012. My goal as an art teacher is to inspire students to create personally-meaningful artwork. Through the discovery of multiple mediums, my hope is to encourage students to take risks and build confidence within their creations.
