While the Americas accounts for approximately 13% of the world’s population, it has experienced nearly 50% of the world’s COVID-19 deaths, with over 1.5 million lives lost. The Western Hemisphere has been disproportionately affected by the social disruption, loss of life and economic instability of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With that in mind, the Biennial of the Americas is excited to announce the launch of the Americas COVID-19 Memorial -- an artist-driven memorial project to acknowledge the grave impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the Americas. The Biennial invites the public to submit memorial artworks to be featured in a virtual exhibition. ASLD is proud to partner with the Biennial to offer a free workshop led by faculty member Adriana Rondón, to show participants how to incorporate the complex feelings brought by the pandemic into their art.

For more information and to submit your own artwork, please visit the Biennial of the Americas website: https://www.biennialoftheamericas.org/americas-covid19-memorial

I am a visual and performance artist from Caracas, Venezuela, living in California. I use my body, photography, video and poetry to tell stories. My work is about my healing journey and my connection with my surroundings. I am interested in using performances and poetic actions that use movement, elements of the plastic arts and technological resources as means of expression. My work is influenced by dance, yoga and my meditations. I am interested in community, people and the social fabric of the city, and incorporating these elements in my artistic work. I use the streets as my stage and allow the participation of the spectators in my work.
