Visiting Artist Series- Shawn Sheehy: Pop-Up Native Wildflowers

Make the season of blooms last just a bit longer! Join Shawn Sheehy in building a collection of elegant wildflowers—including columbine, bloodroot, coneflower and jack-in-the-pulpit—using just a few hand tools and simple cardstock. You’ll cut and assemble the structures, bind them into a simple case, and gain insights into paper engineering and paper sculpture. All levels are welcome.
- Students should bring:
- • ruler
- • self-healing mat
- • xacto knife
- • pencil
- • scissors
- • glue cup
- • low-tack masking tape
- • 415 double-sided tape
- • bone folder (optional)
- • micro spatula (optional)
- • tweezers (optional)
- Instructor will bring for each student:
- • all cardstock required to build the structures
- • a printed pattern set of all structures

Bio: Shawn Sheehy’s broadsides and artist book editions have been collected by Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, University of Chicago, The Library of Congress, UCLA, Harvard, and many more. Published by Candlewick Press, Sheehy has created two award-winning trade pop-up books: Welcome to the Neighborwood (2015) and Beyond the Sixth Extinction (2018).
