Learn the basics of monotype, the simplest of all the printmaking mediums, in one day! We'll learn how to use the press and mix ink in the morning, then incorporate color, painterly effects and mylar stenciling for hard-edged graphic effects after lunch. You'll make up to 5-6 prints, and get an introduction to print room procedures and techniques.

  • Please bring:
  • -1 small tube black oil based (Important!) etching ink
  • -2-3 sheets printing paper, such as Rives BFK or Lightweight; Arches Cover or Text Wove; Stonehenge or Canson Edition
  • -Paper towels or cotton rags
  • -Optional: 1 small tube white oil based ink
  • -Optional: 1-2 sheets of Mylar, any thickness

I work in monotype and my pictures deal with the vexations of making connections of the spirit. The images are representational, but also conceptual and symbolic. I use distressed landscapes as a metaphor for the uncertainties of life, or interiors to express ineffable messages of the heart. I've shown in many venues including Boulder Art Center, Sangre de Christo Arts Center, Colorado Springs Fine Art Center, and the Aspen Art Museum . In 1988, I was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship by the Colorado Council on the Arts. http://www.joehigginsmonotypes.com
