Have you ever wanted to learn the mysterious art practiced by blacksmiths? Well, then this course is for you! This class will be an introduction course into beginner techniques traditionally taught to apprentice smiths. No previous experience in metalworking is required, but familiarity and comfortability with tools is preferred. During the first day of class, students can expect to learn: Learn how to start a gas fired forge, the differences in steel and other materials that can be forged, how to most efficiently use a hammer for your body type/needs, how to square off and taper a round steel rod.  During the course of this class you will get very dirty! Working with steel is a grimy business, and you should expect to be covered in black soot and steel when you are finished each day. Specific PPE will be required. By the end of the course, you will have gained the confidence to pursue intermediate blacksmith skills, or even buy the equipment and forge on your own! Blacksmith practice is a dying art and its historical significance will be passed on to all students wishing to take this course. The skills you will learn will allow you to use this beautifully physical practice to create awe inspiring art, so let us go forth and play with FIRE!!!
