Solar plate printmaking is a diverse and flexible nontoxic intaglio medium. Class will being with a demonstration on how to make and print a solar plate. Some of the techniques we will cover include traditional-looking etching, photo etching, embossing, relief, and images that look like traditional hand drawn lithographs.

  • Please note this class meets one day on Friday July 12. 

    Instructor will bring solar plates in a variety of sizes to the workshop. For students that do not have their own solar plates these will be available for purchase. Pricing starts at $10 for 5"x8".

  • Materials List: Solar Plates, intaglio printing paper (Canson edition or Arches cover), oil based etching ink, apron, cotton rags, paper towels.

BA, University of Northern Colorado Master Printmaker Mark Lunning has owned and operated his own printmaking studio and gallery, Open Press, for 30 years. His work has been exhibited widely in contemporary Denver galleries. The Denver Post recently named Lunning one of “Denver's Art Treasures." BA, University of Northern Colorado.
