New! Explorations in Acrylic and Mixed Media Painting (Session B)
Adult Course | Registration closed 10/21/2024
When we shift our focus to the magic of the creative process we can make art that exceeds our expectations. In this class we will learn about painting through experimentation, risk taking and play and how to balance that with aesthetic sensibility and intention. Beginning with guided painting exercises we will explore our materials, moving us toward making individual works that excite and inspire the artist within.
- Week 1: Welcome and getting to know each other. Experimenting with tools painting exercises
Week 2: Lecture on artistic process. Adding in alternate materials exercise - intro to mixed media
Week 3: The Aesthetic sensibility- ways to make it all work together and talk on bringing in intentions
Week 4: Finding our Personal Inspiration and beginning our independent work ideas- start independent work
Week 5: Independent work- group discussion for feedback
Week 6: Independent work time, Final group discussion on work, wrap up with where to go from here
- For 1st Class please bring:
- Acrylic paints ( I use small samples of house paint along with inexpensive acrylic tubes- you can get mis-tints cheap from home improvement stores sometimes in fun colors)
- White Artist’s tape (this is a special low tack tape for easy removal from paper and can be found at art stores)
- Large pad of watercolor or mixed media paper at least 18”x 24”- for class exercises (Canson XL Watercolor pad is one I use) Or comparable that will accept water media well.
For later classes:
-Palette knives or putty type knives (I use inexpensive plastic ones)
Please feel free to bring any dry or water-based materials you already have on hand or like working with (i.e., charcoal, ink, watercolor, pastel, etc) (optional)
Charcoal (optional)
Other surfaces to work on- can be wood, canvas, or the same heavy, watercolor paper (to accept paint and mixed media) I recommend 18 X 24 size or larger- for independent work
Jenna Almond Williams
Almond Williams has studied abroad in Florence, Italy, where she received instruction in advanced painting, painting restoration, and art history. She has a passion for the process and exploration of art making, which she balances with a concern toward concept. Teaching Philosophy: I believe in a learning environment of experiment and play that ignites a love for the process of art and the desire to discover new and exciting outcomes. An encouraging atmosphere helps students gain the self confidence to emerge within their own ideas and maintain a lifelong love of the arts. Students can expect to be exposed to a variety of methods and materials as well as different artists' work. Additionally, we will work to explore concepts that deepen our awareness of ourselves and our environment. Artist Statement: Color, relationship, process, and technique are all important aspects that inform the concepts at the core of my work. Often manifesting themselves in abstractions, my paintings have an etherial quality that at the same time offer up something of the familiar. Their aim is to engage the viewer to enter into a dialogue that is offered up, but not controlled, by the artwork itself. http://www.almondwilliamsart.com/
