Aisha Renee Brown
I am an Artist and Graphic Designer, creativity has been my refuge. A Black Girl native to Colorado, I found my voice in making digital illustrations. I'm a visionary and forward thinker. After the arrival of my son, I left my career. Creating, then birthing a human life, pushed me to design a new life for myself. One in which, in the throes of parenthood, I would pursue art. Growing up I spent most of my childhood bouncing between Houston, Texas, and here in Denver. My expression is part Southern and part Mid-Western. I was formally trained in Fine Art and earned my B.A. in Graphic Design in 2009. For me, the process of creating and sharing art is intimate. Creating provides me with a vehicle for healing from past traumas. It also allows me to give love to those I create art for. Through art I document my upbringing and culture. I Celebrate motherhood and femininity. I like to explore the notion of creating new traditions. I create as proof of existence. I paint to evoke feelings of acceptance, pride and wholeness. I design to be a reflection. I create for representation. I aim to be a landing strip of familiarity for those having lived the Black American experience. All of this while equally oozing beauty, style, grit and love.
