Teen Printmaking Studio!

Learn how to make a print using a printmaking press. You’ll learn how to make an image using multiple

printmaking techniques including: tetrapak intaglio, monotype, paper lithography, photopolymer plates and

collorgraphy. We’ll start with monotype so you can get used to the press and process. For the rest of the

session, we will demo and work on things that align with how you make art. Like to paint? We can make prints using painterly techniques. Love drawing? Printmaking is perfect for you! Students can expect to make multiple prints per session, learn how to layer multiple images in one print, and learn about printmaking history. Friday Teen Studio includes light dinner.

Session 1. Introductions, class expectations (how we treat each other and how to work in a communal studio), show examples of monoprints. Demo and work time. Students will have the chance to make their first prints with time to clean up.

Session 2. Check in (how is everyone doing today, answer any questions, check on the needs of the class). Multi plate demo, work time, clean up. By the end of class, most students should know what style of prints they'd like to make for the remainder of the class.

Session(s) 3 - 4. Check in (how is everyone doing today, answer any questions, check on the needs of the class). Demo, work time, optional critique, clean up.

  • Please bring an apron or wear clothes you don't mind getting messy. Printmaking ink won't wash out of your clothes! Bring a pencil and paper or sketchbook and whatever drawing supplies you like.
Cannon, Ren
Ren Cannon

Ren (they/them) is an artist based in Denver, CO. They have a BFA in Fibers and Drawing from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins although they primarily work as a printmaker and potter right now. They think that the best way to learn is to experiment, make mistakes, and gain some knowledge rather than seeking perfection. When not in the studio, Ren likes to ride bikes, pet dogs, learn about science and nature, and try new things.
