Fired Up! Exploring the Art of Raku Ceramics
Adult Course | Available
Have you always wanted to try Raku firing, but never had the chance? Or have you Raku fired before and want to advance your knowledge? This three week workshop will take you through the entire process of glazing, firing and post fire processing with ASLD raku veteran Bob Garcia. Bob will share his insights to achieving stunning results from the kiln as well as demonstrate sucessful glaze application. Students will get to explore the unique pallette of raku glazes here at ASLD, and are also encouraged to bring in other commercial raku glazes as well. On the very first day, test tiles will be provided to the students to dip, brush and overlap to experiemnt with unique combinations of glazes before comitting to one's own piece.
This class will not focuss on creating new works, so you will need to arrive on the first day with pieces already bisque fired.
Students need to bring a minimum of 3 pieces and a maximum of 5 that are within the size parameters of 5" x 5" x10".
This class is open to both Wheel-Throwing and Hand-Building students.
If you have any questions, reach out to the studio manager via email at g.callahan@asld.org
Each class includes a standard weekly lab fee which covers the cost of firing and glazing.
Currently enrolled students have access to Ceramic open studio for a $10 fee. Please see the easel in the hallway for updated open studio hours. For this workshop, Open studio may only be utilized between the week of the first and third class, and is for glazing only.
