Wheel Throwing for the Intermediate Potter
Adult Course | Registration opens 2/5/2025 7:00 AM MST
***Strongly suggested that the students have the ability to throw a 1 to 2 pound pot to completion.***
This course is built for the student who has a grasp on making pieces on the pottery wheel and is ready to transition to the Intermediate level. Students will work on improving Throwing skills, making consistent pieces including handles and begin to develop an understanding of what it takes to make pieces look similar in size, shape and aesthetic, altering as well as begin to make larger work.
Lynn's energetic approach to clay allows students to unlock excitement and the ever evasive "AH HA" moment that we all search for as creative individuals.
- students will learn to make a 5 inch cylinder out of a pound of clay, other skills include a variety of lids and galleries, bottles, vases, creamer/pitcher spouts and handles, throwing off the hump and much more
Each class includes a standard weekly lab fee which covers the cost of firing and glazing. In addition to the standard lab fee, students will need to purchase clay through the registration office at ASLD and must be done in person: $20 for 25lbs of stoneware, $25 for 25lbs of porcelain,$10 for 12lbs of our Reclaimed clay. Please only purchase clay from ASLD, unless approved by the studio manager. No low-fire clays may be used at ASLD.
New students, arrive 15-30 minutes early to your first class in order to allow time for the purchase of clay.
Currently enrolled students have access to Ceramic open studio for a $10 fee. Please see the whiteboard in the hallway for updated open studio hours.
Please review the ceramics studio policies before attending the first class: CERAMICS STUDIO POLICIES
