Evoking the Emotional: Abstract Landscapes
Adult Course | Registration opens 2/4/2025 7:00 AM MST
When you visit a museum do you head straight for the Krasner? Mondrian? Rothko? Mitchell? Then this class is for you! I won’t teach you to mimic these artists, but what I will teach you is how to channel and express emotions through painting. The abstract landscape is a deliberate departure from reality whether you’re using a real one as a model or creating a new image from imagination, memory or emotional experience. It can be a serious cathartic expression, a dazzling burst of whimsical color or something from in between.
Let’s find what these places look like!
First day you will need: a sketchbook and pencil, a large pad of newsprint (24x36), charcoal, Conte’ crayon, or chalk pastel
Additional supplies:
pad of Bristol paper 11” x 14”
cream/neutral color painting tape
a variety of metal (not plastic!) palette knives (craft/art stores sell kits of varying sizes shapes that would be great for this class)
1-2 canvases (can be board or stretched, but need to have a stretcher bar or backing to make canvas rigid)
Paper towels
Variety of paint brushes (if you have them)
