Beginning Sculpture
Adult Course | Registration opens 3/4/2025 7:00 AM MST
This small scale sculpture class is for the artist of any skill level - an introductory, no pressure fun time with papier-mâché and found objects. From whimsical creatures, abstract forms, architectural structure, giving physical form to the emotional or intangible - you bring it and I will help you interpret it into shape.
Along with problem solving and elements of sculpture, in this course you will learn how to use these plaster like materials (or that odd piece of metal you’ve been saving for a rainy day) to build a structurally sound (free standing or hanging) piece.

- Learning Objective: This course will go from ideation and sketching to fabrication and problem solving of a structurally sound sculpture. Students will start with a skeleton structure and use papier-mâché, found objects, paint and more to fully form their idea. Translating a 2D idea into a 3D object can feel daunting - by the time you leave this class you will have a better understanding and confidence in doing so.
- First day items: sketchbook and drawing materials, a roll of 10-4 gauge sculpture/armature wire newspaper and masking tape.
Additional supplies I will go over on the first day may include: newspaper or newsprint, optional gesso (at least an 8oz jar), variety of acrylic paint and brushes, piece of wood or other material for sculpture base, found objects to incorporate into sculpture.
