There is nothing quite like the satisfaction of journaling and sketching in a book you have
made. This class is designed for the beginner, and welcomes artists of all kinds to create a
book for a thousand uses. Made with a hardcover and decorative papers, this rugged book
is meant to be trekked and; traveled with. Students will work with prepared materials, and learn to sew the book structure and create the cover, as well as skills to work from home with minimal studio needs.
Please note that students should have a working knowledge of scissors, xacto/snap blade
knives, measuring in inches and using a thread and needle for this course.

Optional tools (ASLD has a set for use): mechanical pencil, large and small scissors, small metal triangle, xacto or snap blade knife, small 1” flat synthetic brush, metal ruler 12”, ceramic scraper tool or thin awl tool
Rhiannon Alpers
Rhiannon Alpers is a papermaker, letterpress printer, and book artist. She has an MFA and a BA in Book Arts and Papermaking. She has taught academic courses and workshops nationally since 2003, and relocated to the Denver area with her family in 2021 from San Francisco. She produces limited edition and sculptural artist books under the imprint of Gazelle and Goat Press. Rhiannon is a member of Spark Gallery in the Santa Fe Arts District.
