Seventies Summer Dress Making
Adult Course | Registration opens 5/6/2025 7:00 AM MDT
These dresses are loosely inspired by turn of the century fashion. If you look up "1910s fashion" you see a lot of beautiful white cotton dresses. These are not that. Revived in the 1970s, this silhouette features a high neck, long sleeves, maxi skirt, and a micro print, which TBH is the only non-quilting usage of cotton microprints I've ever seen. These dresses thankfully fell out of fashion but were revived in the 2020's, for some nefarious unknown reason. You can tell how I feel about them. I've seen these are Nordy's for like $200. Anthropologie sells them for an exorbitant price, like $40 bajillion dollars in a swiss dot cotton. Don't pay actual money for this. I'll teach you how to make one. I would prefer if you had sewing experience but it's not required. This would be a good project for a beginning stitcher since most of it is long, straight, skirt seams. If it's your first time sewing I will give you tips on how to make this easier to sew (we'll skip the ruffle and the sleeves).
Main objectives include:
-Learn how to set a sleeve
-Learn how to set a zipper
-Learn how to hem
-Introduction to texture in fashion design
-introduction to fashion history: gunne sax
