Especially when shopping Online, how do you know what you get for the valuable money you spend on fabrics and clothes? This class is a quick overview of how much is out there and what to look for to make good decisions for each purchase you make. Together we will touch and talk about amazing fabrics and weaves, see lots of fashion designs using a variety of the most popular 12 fibers, each with their own personalities. We will discuss prices and values and answer your questions about your current projects and past mistakes. Prepare for life changing awareness!
(Note: A more extensive 3 session “Textiles 101 mini-college approach” course is also available upon request in the future.)

Learning Objectives:
Know what to look for in the Details when shopping online, how to find and read fiber content labels, and to understand how the final product will perform over time.

Denholm, Dianne
Dianne Denholm

Dianne is a native of Denver and has had a long successful career with pure focus on the world of textiles and fabrics. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Textiles and 35 years as a Buyer (and Seamstress) of international designer fabrics and textile art. Dianne is a Westword Master Mind award winner and owned the popular fashion fabric boutique in Cherry Creek North on 3rd Avenue, D'Leas Fabric & Button Studio for 20 years, then founded TACtile Textile Arts Center in Denver for 7 years soon after. She has worked nationally with trade organizations as a speaker and leader in promoting the fiber arts and fashion merchandising. Most recently, she worked in the shops of the Denver Art Museum, Botanic Gardens, and Molly's of Denver, a high end professional women's clothier in downtown Denver. She is also a graduate of the Pantone Director's Eiseman Advanced Color Information & Training Institute. (Watch for more classes on Color Harmony to come!). She is excited to be on staff at ASLD to share her passion and unique understanding of fibers, with both the academic and the consumer frame of mind. Her lifelong mission is to promote awareness for the art of touch, color and textural form in the arts community.
