Abstraction From Nature

Adult Course | Registration opens 5/6/2025 7:00 AM MDT

Have you ever wanted to work with abstraction but struggled to make the leap from representational work? In this class, we will draw outside and work through a series of exercises that will give you some structure to use when dipping your toes into a new way of expression.

Learning Objectives:
Students will learn tools to help build confidence when approaching abstraction. Skills include using a viewfinder to help with composition, gestural drawing, working with mixed media, and honing your observational skills.

  • Class offered rain or shine.
  • Materials needed- bring your favorite drawing supplies, a sketchbook, some imagery you’re responding to, and some paper if you want to start working outside of your sketchbook. I consider anything that can make a mark on a page a drawing tool, so truly bring whatever you like!

Cannon, Ren
Ren Cannon

Ren (they/them) is an artist based in Denver, CO. They have a BFA in Fibers and Drawing from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins although they primarily work as a printmaker and potter right now. They think that the best way to learn is to experiment, make mistakes, and gain some knowledge rather than seeking perfection. When not in the studio, Ren likes to ride bikes, pet dogs, learn about science and nature, and try new things.
