Join us for a one- day beginners workshop where students will explore the history of Japanese Stab Binding. Japanese stab binding is a traditional bookbinding technique characterized by its decorative stitching and simplicity. The binding is functional without the need to fold the pages. The morning session will begin with an introduction to bookmaking, sharing examples of different types of books and a brief history of Japanese Stab Binding.
Throughout the day, students will make (4) separate books using (4) different Japanese stab binding patterns. The technique involves sewing together individual sheets of paper, with decorative covers. Students will also make a small paper portfolio to hold their books.
