Sampler: Portrait Drawing for Beginners
Sampler | Registration opens 5/5/2026 9:00 AM MDT
Have you ever tried to draw a nose, and it was too long, or the eyes were too close together? This class will give you all the tools to draw an accurate portrait. After you accurately draw your portrait, you will then learn how to shade the subtle shadows of the face, hair, neck, and shoulders.
Bring your own frontal view of a face, including hair, neck, and shoulders. Your image must be at least 8 ½” x11”. It does not matter if the face is in black and white or in color.
HB and 3B pencils. A 6B pencil is optional, though it helps create very dark values.
White and kneaded erasers
Pencil Sharpener
Smudge stick
Drawing paper: 2-3 sheets of 9”x12 paper, and one sheet of 11”x14” paper
