Express Yourself! A Mixed Media Experience

This class combines colored tissue, markers, and your choice of color pencil or paint. You will learn to develop your mixed-media project by starting with colored tissues in bold, non-realistic colors. A black permanent marker is used next to define your drawing. Lastly, colored pencils or paint are used to enhance and add detail to your project. No drawing experience is necessary. You have the option to draw your own subject.

White or Kneaded Easer
Sharp Scissors
1 Ultra Fine and 1 Fine black Sharpie Marker
Liquitex Matt Medium (smallest jar possible). This can be found at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or any art store.
Assortment of colored pencils (you may use watercolor or acrylic paint instead of or included with colored pencils if you are experienced with these media). Bring your own paint supplies if you plan to include paint in your project.
Water Container
5-10 sheets of paper towels
Small plastic plate and 1 foot of plastic wrap
Cheap brushes (they might have some damage with this project). Three or more brushes. Size recommendations: ½”, 1”, 1 ½”
Colored tissue is included with your registration fee.
12”x12” or 9”x12” canvas or painting board that can withstand liquid without warping.
A photograph or drawing that matches the size of your canvas/board. Print a copy of your original drawing or photograph so that you have 2 copies of your subject. There are no restrictions on topics, i.e., landscape, portrait, or design. This is a fun, self-expressive project. It is not a project focused on realism.
