Simplifying Watercolor

Adult Class | Available

This class is about a simple way to paint with watercolors.

The lessons are designed to remove the complexities from learning this delightful but challenging medium.

In each class, we will explore different methods of watercolor painting to create simple paintings with lecture, practice, and individual guidance.

No complex color study, masking, or any special techniques in this class.

If you are a beginner, or if you tried watercolor in the past, found it too difficult, yet still loves the joy, magic and playfulness of the medium, this class is for you.

Class Objectives:

Sketch book compositions for watercolor painting.

Understanding light and shadow.

Use of reference materials and photos, for watercolor.

Simple applications of paint, washes, and brushwork that are unique to watercolor painting.

 

  • Small, medium, and large watercolor brushes. Can be round or square, but a round small, round medium, and large square are recommended.

    Mixed media or watercolor paper, any size but preferably between 5x7 and 9x12.

    Colors (a set of Windsor & Newton watercolors is fine, if you don’t want individual tubes)

    • Cadmium Red
    • Ultramarine
    • Cerulean
    • Prussian Blue
    • Paynes Gray
    • Sap Green
    • Yellow Ochre
    • Burnt Umber 
    • Burnt Sienna
    • Optional: White gouache
