The Day in the life of an Artist: Clay and Steel. 4 participants will review a theoretical commission for a mixed media clay tile wall piece. This offsite class takes place in the studio of Janey Skeer and includes the following: Outline of the work from a paper plan-to a cardboard maquette-to the building the clay tiles-surface treatment and firing. Come and Work alongside Janey and see how a tile comission goes from concept, planning to implementation.

Day 1: Saturday November 21st, 9:00 AM - 4:30PM
Day 2: Monday November 23rd, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Clay:
Each class includes a materials fee which covers the cost of firing and glazing. In addition to this fee, students will need to purchase clay through the Registration Office at ASLD, which must be done in person. Clay costs are $20 for 25lbs of stoneware, $25 for 25lbs of porcelain. Please only purchase clay from ASLD, unless approved by the studio manager. No low-fire clays may be used at ASLD.
Tools:
Community tools are available for student use, in exception of a small sponge. If you prefer personal tools, a basic ceramics tool kit, small sponges and large clean up sponges are available for purchase at the Registration Office.
Other supplies:
Students are encouraged to wear clothes that can get dirty to ceramics class, including close-toed shoes. We also recommend bringing an apron and a towel.

Janey Skeer
Janey Skeer has a Masters in Fine Arts in ceramics from the University of Denver and has been a working studio artist for over 28 years. She exhibits locally, regionally, and nationally. Skeer's art combines clay and steel and explores the interplay and unity of texture, shape, light, shadow and color. Her work can be found in public and private collections, including those of the Smithsonian Institution, Apple Computer and Westminster City Hall.
