Offsite: Textile Wrapped Creature Sculptures
Adult Class | Registration opens 8/4/2026 9:00 AM MDT
Students will learn how to create a simple armature (a skeleton or framework used by an artist to support a figure) from lightweight gauge wire and a wooden base. We will learn basic armature creating skills with light tools. Students will then use gorgeous fabrics, yarns and other textiles to wrap the armature we created and build our creatures in three dimensions. Our first class meeting will be introducing, basic processes, creating an armature, what types of textiles work best, and we will get started on designing. Students will learn how to create and wrap wire armatures with just a few basic tools. Expect to play with textiles and learn new skills you can expand upon at home.
This process is very meditative and personal. Please bring any fabric or textiles from home you would like to include in your wrapping. You may also bring a sentimental or meaningful object to place in the center of your creature to personalize your art.
- Day 1: Intro; go over supplies, processes, experiment with wire, tools and a wooden base to better understand the possibilities of a wire armature. We will get started on brainstorming and planning your creatures.
Day 2: Students will create their armatures and begin wrapping. We will explore the elements of design like balance, color, texture, line, shape, form, value and space
Day 3-4: Students will continue and finish their creatures!
