Splash of Color: Introduction to non-realistic colors using acrylic paint

This class will introduce harmonizing colors (analogous colors) using acrylic paint. In this class, you will learn how to use expressive non-realistic colors using hardline, layering, and blending techniques. No drawing experience is necessary.
Day 1: Transfer drawing to canvas. Introduction to analogous colors and monochromatic colors. Color mixing exploration.
Day 2: Finish drawing and color mixing from Day 1. Demonstration on hardline, layering, and blending techniques: Practice all methods.
Discussion on how to approach your painting. Color dominance, focal point
Day 3: Begin painting
Day 4: Finish painting, Class critique
- Pencil #2, or 6B, pen, and eraser
9”x12” Sketchbook for exercises and note-taking
Three acrylic paint tubes of your favorite color combination
Select one of the following color combinations:
1. yellow, orange, red
2.red, violet, blue
3. blue, green, yellow
One tube of each: titanium white and Ivory black
Detail brush #2, flat brushes #4 and #6
Palette knife
Mini spray bottle (found in the trial size section)
Water container
3 sheets of paper towels
Palette (a white plastic plate will work; bring Saran Wrap to cover your paints). If you intend to continue painting with acrylic paint in the future, I recommend a stay-wet palette size 9”x12.”
10”x10" OR 9”x12” canvas, or canvas board (your preference)
