Sampler: Wheel Throwing
Sampler | Registration opens 11/4/2026 10:00 AM MDT
Always wanted to try the pottery wheel but can’t commit to a 6 week class? Or maybe you can’t stop watching Ghost because of the wheel-throwing scenes and want to try it out yourself?
Come spend some time trying out the pottery wheel in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. In 3 hours you’ll learn the basic steps of working on the wheel and finally find out for yourself what all the hype is about!
This sampler will include a quick intro while we make a pinch pot, then a demo on wedging and throwing on the wheel, followed by 2 hours of time on the wheel, & finishing with a thorough cleanup
- This sampler workshop will include all of the supplies needed. Completed works will be glazesd by ASLD studio staff in one chosen glaze. Students will be contacted when pieces are out of the kiln and ready for pick up.
- Bring an old towel and/or apron.
Jack Heimerman
Jack Heimerman has a BFA in ceramics from Northern Arizona University, and has a background in atmospheric firing techniques like wood and sagger firing. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. He taught adult and children's wheel throwing at the Art League School in Alexandria, VA, before moving to Colorado a few years ago.
Jack's approach to teaching allows for independent growth and exploration while giving students hands on instruction to master the fundamentals of throwing. As the student becomes more proficient on the wheel, they are given greater creative license to follow their own personal style.
