3 Day PJ Project - Intergenerational

Celebrate the holidays with your child aged 8 - 13 by creating matching PJ pants!
"Learn-to Sew" beginners through intermediate sewists are encouraged to join this class. You will learn the parts of the sewing machine, how to thread it and wind a bobbin. You may bring your own machine or use ours. The first day we will practice sewing straight and curved lines and make a small "quilt" with 5 strips of fabric using the serger. After taking measurements, students will start placing the pattern on the fabric and cutting out their PJ pants.
During the second session, the class will finish cutting and start sewing their pants using the sewing machine and serger for the side seams, inseams and around the top edge and hems.
The last class has participants sewing the casing for the elastic, threading the elastic through the casing, trying on the pants to determine the correct elastic length and hem length. The last bit is to close up the casing and sew the hems and hooray! you have matching PJ pants!!

Jackie Scott
Jackie loves teaching children and adults to sew and has been doing so for over15 years. She, herself started sewing at age 7 and won first prize in her doll’s dress design contest. Jackie quickly surpassed her mom’s and grandmother’s sewing abilities.
After 12 semesters of clothing construction in Jr and Sr high school, Jackie earned a degree in Fashion Design and worked in the Fashion industry for over 20 years as an assistant designer / patternmaker. She also has created numerous one-of-a-kind garments for clients as well as many home-dec projects.
Jackie has been teaching many different Fiber Arts classes at The Art Students League of Denver since 2015. Before that she taught Fashion Design classes at Emily Griffith Community College part-time for 5 years in Draping, Costuming, Patternmaking and Sewing construction.
In February of 2020, Jackie retired after 17 years with Denver’s largest local theater company: The Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Jackie enjoyed the creativity and challenges immensely, thriving as a costume technician (draper).
