Adult Class | Registration opens 11/3/2026 10:00 AM MDT
Learning Objectives:
Introduction to a variety of simple books, vocabulary and materials of bookmaking.
This is a beginner class and does not require previous bookmaking experience
Join us for a one-session workshop where we will explore essential bookmaking structures and stitches. We will begin by covering the fundamentals, tools, adhesives, and resources to give students a foundation for future learning. Students will be shown a multitude of samples that will prompt your creativity before we begin.
We will create four books and a folio. Structures include the hardcover accordion book, a single-section pamphlet stitch, Japanese stab binding, single-page books, and a phase box or paper portfolio. Completing these books using a variety of techniques will serve as the starting place for students’ next projects. This workshop is open to all, and we look forward to sharing this experience and our love of books with you.
- Supplies will be provided.
Optional tools (ASLD has a set for use): mechanical pencil, large and small scissors, small metal triangle, Xacto or snap blade knife, small 1” flat synthetic brush, metal ruler 12”, thin awl tool.
