Crafty students who love dance and storytelling will use their hands and imagination as they explore a different dance concept every day. They will also learn about different types of theatrical storytelling while crafting a colorful, creative performance for friends and family. Throughout the week we will make puppets, instruments, and even our own set! This is the perfect class for budding artists or new dancer-performers. Makers and dancers share their creativity with family in an informal presentation on the last day of camp

  • Clothing: Dress for comfort and ease of movement. Dance clothes such as leotards, footless tights, sweatpants/shorts, leggings, t-shirts, dance skirts, etc. Students dance in bare feet.
Beddoe, Katie

Katie Beddoe (she/her) is excited to work with the Creative Dance Center! She graduated from WWU with a BA in Applied Theatre. Katie grew up on the stage performing in musicals but pivoted from performance in college when she discovered theatre for social justice and wellbeing. She has been teaching and directing children's theatre since 2013. She has taught with the Evergreen School, Doorstep Arts (UK), Bainbridge Performing Arts, Cstock, and started her own theatre company before the pandemic. Katie emphasizes the process of creativity and collaboration with her students, guiding them to "strengthen their strengths" as performers. Katie has worked alongside Carly Squires Hutchison, a fellow teaching artist, over the last year on theatre/social-emotional learning projects for young people, which is how she was introduced to the Creative Dance Center. She says, “I love teaching drama and creative movement to the theatre-curious. In my classroom, we will explore how we can express ourselves and tell stories through movement. I look forward to making art with you!”
