A creative introduction to modern dance! Students explore dance concepts such as Energy, Rhythm, and Pathways and learn and practice movement skills. Rolling, swinging, leaping, jumping, turning - this class builds a foundation for body awareness, coordination, and motor development! Social-emotional skills are strengthened as dancers begin to collaborate and develop self-expression as they create dances using the building blocks of choreographic forms. 

There IS space available in this class! CDC offers rolling admission, so you may register at any point during the session for any class that is not full. Classes may be prorated after the 3rd week of the session. A $15 prorate fee will be assessed. In order to register after the 3rd week of the session, you must contact registrar@creativedance.orgYou will then be sent a link to register at the discounted rate.

  • Clothing: Dress for comfort and ease of movement. Dance clothes such as leotards, footless tights, sweatpants/shorts, leggings, t-shirts, dance skirts, etc. Students dance in bare feet.
Daugherty, Katie

Katie Daugherty (she/her) is a Seattle-based artist and is thrilled to be teaching at the Creative Dance Center. An active educator, performer, choreographer, and miniature maker, you can find her throughout Seattle sharing her passion for the arts. Katie holds a BA from the University of Washington (UW) with a major in dance. Katie began teaching at a preschool in 2020 which supplied her with a valuable foundation for teaching toddlers. In 2022 she began teaching dance and has since taught at the Creative Dance Center, All That Dance, University of Washington, and University Child Development School . In each class Katie teaches she aims to build a communal space that values exploration, fun, and supporting one another. Katie has performed works by Brian Brooks, AVID - A Vehicle for Improvised Dance, Alexandra Bradshaw-Yerby, Rachael Lincoln, Alethea Alexander, and Jennifer Salk, among others.
