Yoko Kogure

Yoko Kogure, a Los Angeles native, has been immersed in Southern California’s vibrant Hip Hop dance scene for over 20 years. She served as the Company Director of Culture Shock Los Angeles for nearly a decade, leading community engagement initiatives, producing performances, and mentoring dancers of all levels. Her teaching experience includes roles as a teaching artist for LA Unified School District, leadership in youth and professional dance companies, and instruction at dance studios and schools across the region.
Yoko’s performance journey includes being part of renowned dance teams such as Pac Modern, Boogiezone Breed OC/LA, Movement Project, and Culture Shock Los Angeles. She has performed at iconic venues like the Hollywood Bowl and Ford Amphitheater, as well as major dance events including Arena Dance Competition, VIBE Dance Competition, Bodyrock, World of Dance (WOD), and Carnival, among others. She is trained in styles such as Popping, House, Locking, and Waacking. While these styles are often grouped under the Hip Hop “umbrella,” they are not Hip Hop styles. Each of these forms has its own distinct techniques, vocabulary, and cultural origins.
Yoko is passionate about inspiring her students to find joy in movement and is deeply committed to helping them develop confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love for dance.
