Understanding Our Place in the Universe (Part 1)
Zoom Lecture | Available (Membership Required)
Our first meeting starts with a basic inventory of our observable universe as we consider Earth, our solar system, stars, galaxies, clusters, and superclusters. We will marvel at the appearance of these heavenly bodies, their features, and their relative sizes and distances from each other. As we examine the sky and the motion of the Earth, we will understand the causes of seasons.
Together we will study eclipses and phases of the Moon. Finally, we will analyze the basic properties of light and realize the scientific implications of the recent stunning images from the James Webb Space Telescope. All class sessions feature striking visual presentations.
