Abraham Lincoln and the "English Reader"
In Person Lecture | Available (Membership Required)
Abraham Lincoln wrote that the most important book for the development of his values, philosophy, and ways to govern was “Murray’s English Reader”, written in 1826 by Lindley Murray and republished by Forgotten Books. Lincoln read the book many times during his adult years. For this class you will choose two readings from this book that you consider most important and be prepared to read them aloud; a class discussion of each student’s selection will follow.
The book is available from Amazon for $12.95.
