W25-24 A Look at the First Amendment: Free Speech - Out of Control or Contained - Only Time and the Courts Will Tell - Part 2
Class | Registration closed 12/15/2024
Our right to freedom of speech comes from the First Amendment. But like all of our rights, none are absolute and without some restrictions. Our session will focus on the right to free speech and its limitations, each depending on the place (public or private), speaker (private citizen or well-known individual), time (wartime, domestic or international crisis, peacetime) and manner of speech (words used and their acceptance). Topics of mainstream media and social media, defamation, the press and personal responsibility will be covered. Our foundations will include current and landmark Supreme Court decisions and connected legislation.
