F25-44 Political Rivals Through the Ages: The Clash of Spirits and Ideals NEW
Class | Registration opens 8/17/2025 9:00 AM EDT
Throughout the ages, adversaries have always existed, changing both lives and history. This course will examine the political rivalries of four pairs of individuals: (Marcus Tullius) Cicero and (Lucius Sirgius) Catiline of the Roman Republic, Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr of the early American republic, Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas, and Lincoln and George McClellan in an era of American political division.
No individual should be perceived as singularly good or evil. Therefore, the personalities and beliefs of each will be analyzed within the context of history, hopefully stimulating further understanding of those rivalries, the individuals themselves and the noteworthy events of each age.
