S26-33 Heroes and Spies NEW

Class | Registration opens 3/8/2026 9:00 AM EST

The Suffragettes – UK & USA: We discuss the brave ladies in the UK led by Emmeline Pankhurst and in the USA led by Susan B. Anthony and her lifelong friend Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Learn about their battle for women’s reform and their sometimes-militant tactics against the politicians of the day. They never gave up and we are thankful.

WWII Heroes & Spies: Discuss the contribution to the war efforts as part of the resistance movement in WWII known as the SOE (Special Operations Executive). A British organization formed to conduct espionage, sabotage and reconnaissance in occupied Europe.

Learn all about Churchill’s favorite spy, Christine Granville, Virginia Hall, who shot herself in the foot, Pippa Latour, Violette Szabo, Nancy Wake and Vera Atkins. They all put their lives in danger for the greater good. Finally, learn about the Cook sisters—who would suspect the unassuming opera-loving sisters.

The Land Girls: The final week of the program we look at the Women’s Land Army, known as the Land Girls. Not just rat catchers, they made a crucial contribution to food production in WWII.
